Dylan—our youngest and smallest—is so far not a great swimmer. Mostly, he spurns the faster and more graceful front crawl for the expedient dog paddle.

But his choice of strokes says nothing of his comfort level in the water.

This summer—at home, a block from Kits Beach, and everywhere we visited on Vancouver Island—he and Liam swam and dove and spun like seals in the sea almost every day, in all kinds of weather and wave conditions.

So far as I can tell, he is most his carefree and brave and alive in the sea.

  4. My heart swells with pride and joy when I look at that boy – WOW. He and his older brother make me realize that life is good! Great parenting, S and P.

  5. Reminds me of someone else at that age… determined and brave but in a pool….

  6. What a shot! He’ll appreciate it someday!
