Last Friday, Dylan caused quite a stir walking to school as Wicket W. Warrick, the Ewok. His Nana created the whole costume from bits and pieces of material, sticks, faux fur, real fur, leather and faux leather  she gathered from thrift stores and garage sales all over the Qualicum Beach region, reworking them into a costume authentic enough to walk onto a Star Wars set unnoticed. It was a work of art!

The creator’s plan was for him to paint his face brown with a black nose to complete the costume. Dylan wanted to be entirely authentic so, with Paul’s help,  he cut an extra piece of fur into a mask. They cut out eye and mouth holes, stuck a nose on and strung elastic from the corners to keep it on his head. Despite sweating like crazy and having to constantly spit out and pick out bits of fur from his mouth, he stayed in costume for most of the day at school.

He could have chosen to be a furry Wookie, but I love that he chose to be one of these small but fierce tree-house dwellers.
